1. 贤者与银鱼
很久很久以前，在一个逐渐礼崩乐坏的年代，那里曾有过一位睿智的贤者。他是那个年代里最博学多智的人，并且他还是如此的仁慈宽宏，满怀对天下苍生的恻隐之心。他本能成为任何一位胸怀天下的君王的左膀右臂，为世界塑造富足与和平，但是在那个黑暗的年代，并没有哪一位君王拥有足够的智慧与大志值得他的忠诚。于是他独自隐居在一个小山村里，远离世间苦难。
贤者十分喜欢垂钓。他常常一个人来到河边，垂一弯鱼竿，一个人一边唱歌一边思索着世间因果哲理。他并不能钓到很多鱼，远远不足以致富，但也足够他在这个小村庄里拥有一份平静舒适的生活。
有一天，当他正在吟诵一首新的歌谣，却突然看见鱼线猛地晃动起来。贤者忙收回鱼线，将他的捕获甩在水桶里。那是一条非常美丽的鱼，几乎三尺长，小小的水桶几乎装不下了。鱼有着银白色的鳞和宝蓝色的眼睛，比贤者所见过的所有鱼都还要漂亮。贤者十分欣喜；这样一条美丽的鱼一定能卖个好价钱。
就在那个时候银鱼开口说道，“请放我离开，请放我离开吧！你的水桶实在太小了，我无法舒展我的尾巴。”
贤者怜悯这条银鱼，于是便将鱼儿放回水中。银鱼迅速地游开了，但不过片刻它却又游了回来。
“尊敬的贤者，”银鱼说道，“十分感谢你能放我离开。我必须要找到一个方法报答你的恩情。”
2. The Prince's Companion
The Steward barely put down the goblet, already the poison was
devouring his heart. So powerful was the poison that it turned the
stone shell around his heart to dust, and suddenly, a heart of flesh
and blood began beating once more. The Steward felt a burning
pain inhis chest, so searing a pain that it wrung tears from his eyes.
Suddenly,the Steward understood everything he had done, and
tears poured from his eyes like summer rain.
“Your Majesty, my King!” He said, weeping bitterly, “How like
your father you seem! Your father, my Prince, I loved him more than
all else in this world. So great was my love that I tortured my heart
so for his sake; so great was my love that I forsook all love, and
could no longer love! I am truly sorry that I drove away your wife,
that good hunter's daughter. Accept my repentance, Your Majesy. I
shall go now, fare thee well; forgiveness or no, I only wish to say,
when I could have loved, I did always love you, child of my Prince.

3. A Quest of Drunkenness
By now the bounty hunter has spent seven days in this faraway city.
Though he was no nearer to the answer than he had ever been, he
would not give up. He has grown to know and respect the prime
minister like most people cannot, and he was most determined to
find a cure. So like the ghost had suggested, the bounty hunter
visited all the cemeteries and temples in and around the city. On the
fifteenthof the month, he found a temple dedicated to none other
than the prime minister. He was utterly shocked; a temple hosting
one yet living, now that was a very rare thing!
He went into the temple and asked the crowd gathered there,“Why
is there a temple dedicated to our prime minister? The good gentleman is yet living; is it not a bad omen to put him in a house built to
revere thedead?”
“We know he is yet living, we know,” answered the crowd,“But
he has done much for us, and there is nothing we can offer him,
now that he is so far away in the capital. We build temples to honor
greatness, not just to revere the dead, and the living great can be
worthy of a temple as well. If he be worthy, the love and offering
within a temple will not harm him, but give him life and prosperity!
Surely our prime minister is worthy. Will you join us in making an offering?”
